Fish Caves
Providing fish caves and other areas for fish to hide is important. Fish naturally like to hide, not to mention this is protection from predators like the great blue heron. Pictured here is a massive 6 foot long fish cave for a spring fed pond. The water level was temporarily lowered in order to create this.

Waterfalls
Waterfalls are great for ponds. Looking and listening to moving water can literally improve your mood and mental health! Not to mention it adds important oxygen to the water for your fish.

Aquatic Plants
Aquatic plants are a must in any pond. Putting the right plants in your pond adds visual beauty to the water feature. More importantly aquatic plants reduce algae levels by creating shade (cooling the water) and using fish waste to grow. They attract wildlife and provide places to hide as well.

Stocking Fish
Nothing is better than sitting back and watching fish swim in a pond. It's important to know how to safely introduce fish to your pond. It's even more important to know what fish can live together. Pictured here is an Albino or Gold Channel catfish. These fish get large and grow fast. Although they can easily be trained to eat fish pellets, they are predators and will eat other fish if given the chance.
